Can you help configure our Azure Monitoring?

Our call to Adventure!

Guided migration to a different cloud vendor and process optimization.

This is a question we get all the time, and the answer is: Yes! We can certainly help configure your Azure Monitoring to meet your business needs! As Microsoft Gold Partners, our team specializes in servicing the Microsoft Azure space.

Let’s begin our adventure with a few questions first, to ensure we understand your desired state:

  • Who are the responsible teams if an alert is triggered?
  • What type of alerting are you looking to configure with Azure Monitoring?
  • When would you like to be alerted if there is a problem detected?
  • Which resources, metrics, and thresholds are important to your team for monitoring?
  • How would you like to ensure your alerts are kept up to date with the latest Azure capabilities?

As you can see there are many items that required discussion and planning to configure Azure Monitoring. Additionally, there may be alternative ways to get your environment monitoring started, for example: Azure Monitor Workbooks.

By now I’m sure you have more questions than answers. For example, what can you monitor with Azure Monitor? Great question! Let’s look at this together, Microsoft has a great resource for this question.

Can we start with monitoring just our SQL Databases? Definitely! We can help with that as well. Let’s lock down the metrics that are important to your team first. Here is another fantastic resource from Microsoft covering this.

While we are looking at all of these, another question generally comes to mind. How do I know which of these metrics are important? We get that a lot. Looking at the list of metric capabilities can be daunting.

To fully configure your azure monitoring, we would first need to review your existing resources, then focus on one metric provider at a time. We will have multiple discussions with the responsible team for configuring the monitoring to suite your business needs.

What do we do next?

Let’s say we’ve decided to use Azure Workbooks to help increase visibility, after navigating the hectic sea of information. Now, we can set up a Log Analytics workspace and utilize Kusto Query Language (KQL) to alert as needed.

We can also focus on picking a few resources for initial monitoring. At Tridius, we have various ways to assist with your monitoring needs. From setting up custom monitoring, to fully managing your Azure environment, we are ready to inspire your team to innovate solutions that improve your business!

In the next series of this blog, we will share more Microsoft resources and an example alert configuration for SQL Databases to make some additional decisions. Make sure you check our resources page for more helpful content.
